Bhopal, August 18, 2026: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet against former actor-model Twisha Sharma’s husband, Samarth Singh, and her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, alleging that she was subjected to sustained mental cruelty and psychological harassment during her short marriage.
Twisha, 33, was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12, 2026, around six months after marrying Samarth Singh. The CBI took over the investigation following concerns surrounding her death and has now detailed a series of incidents that it says point to prolonged mental harassment.
Twisha’s Final Message
One of the most disturbing pieces of evidence cited in the CBI chargesheet is a message Twisha allegedly sent to her sister-in-law, Rashi Abrol, shortly before her death.
At around 9:36 pm on May 12, Twisha allegedly wrote:
“Ask him to collect left over of his wife. But tomorrow. Let me die in peace right now.”
The message was reportedly sent after a series of phone calls during which Twisha was allegedly crying and in severe emotional distress. Investigators have treated the message as significant evidence in reconstructing her final moments.
CBI Alleges Sustained Psychological Harassment
According to the agency’s chargesheet, Twisha experienced repeated conflict with her husband and mother-in-law during the roughly six months of her marriage.
The CBI has invoked provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to cruelty by a husband or his relatives, abetment of suicide and common intention. The investigation into possible dowry-related allegations is also continuing.
The agency’s case is that the alleged conduct created sustained psychological pressure on Twisha and contributed to her decision to end her life.
Pregnancy Became a Major Point of Conflict
Investigators have also examined events surrounding Twisha’s pregnancy.
According to the investigation, Twisha discovered she was pregnant in April and was reportedly uncertain about continuing the pregnancy because of problems in her relationship with Samarth.
She and Samarth subsequently consulted a psychiatrist. Investigators say Twisha told her mother that she felt those around her were trying to portray her as mentally unstable.
The couple reportedly returned for another consultation in May, following which they were advised to seek further medical and relationship counselling.
Counselling Session Before Her Death
On May 12, the couple reportedly attended a counselling session in an attempt to address their relationship problems.
Investigators say Twisha asked the counsellor to speak privately with Samarth. During the session, the counsellor allegedly advised Samarth to listen to his wife and give her time.
The CBI has also examined allegations concerning financial disagreements. Investigators reportedly found that Twisha had alleged that Samarth and his mother were pressuring her to transfer investments worth around Rs 20 lakh into a joint account.
The Final Hours
The chargesheet reportedly contains a detailed reconstruction of Twisha’s final hours.
At around 9:20 pm, she spoke to Rashi while crying and complained of back pain. She reportedly told her that she had asked Samarth to sleep in the bedroom.
A few minutes later, Twisha reportedly spoke to Rashi again but was allegedly sobbing and unable to speak normally.
The final message was sent shortly afterwards.
Twisha was later found hanging at the matrimonial home and was taken to AIIMS Bhopal, where she was declared dead.
What Did the Second Post-Mortem Find?
The case has also involved conflicting questions surrounding the medical evidence.
A second post-mortem conducted by an AIIMS Delhi medical board reportedly concluded that Twisha died from ante-mortem hanging and found no injury suggesting an assault or physical struggle before her death.
This finding is significant because Twisha’s family had previously raised questions about injuries noted during the initial examination and had alleged foul play.
Her family has continued to express dissatisfaction with the investigation’s conclusions and has reportedly maintained that her death involved more than suicide.
Husband and Mother-in-Law Charged
The CBI has formally named Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh in its chargesheet. Samarth is a lawyer, while Giribala is a former district judge.
The charges relate to alleged cruelty, abetment of suicide and common intention. However, the allegations contained in a chargesheet are not a finding of guilt, and the accused will have the opportunity to contest the case before the court.
The defence has denied the allegations. Their lawyer has reportedly said that there was no evidence of dowry demand and that the defence would present its case before the trial court.
Dowry Angle Still Under Investigation
The CBI has indicated that its investigation into the alleged dowry-related aspects of the case is not yet complete.
Further investigation and potentially additional chargesheets could follow depending on the evidence collected by the agency.
For now, the chargesheet provides investigators’ account of what they believe happened during the final months and hours of Twisha Sharma’s life, while the ultimate determination of criminal responsibility will rest with the court.
The case has drawn significant attention because of the allegations of marital cruelty, the involvement of a former judge and the disturbing final message that has emerged as one of the key pieces of evidence in the investigation.
