In a major breakthrough in the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) paper leak investigation, the main accused, Birendra (also reported as Bijendra) Kumar Gupta, has been arrested in Bihar by the Bhiwandi Police. He is being brought to Maharashtra for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Gupta, who had been absconding for several weeks, is alleged to be the mastermind behind the paper leak racket. Investigators claim he orchestrated the operation by allegedly influencing individuals connected to the printing process, enabling confidential examination papers to be leaked before the scheduled test.
According to police, the leaked question papers were allegedly smuggled out of the printing facility and intended to be sold to candidates for large sums of money. The Maharashtra TET examination, originally scheduled for June 28, was postponed after authorities uncovered the alleged leak. Investigators estimate the accused planned to earn nearly ₹1.5 crore through the illegal sale of the papers.
With Gupta’s arrest, the total number of people arrested in the case has risen to 13, officials said. Police believe his interrogation could reveal the full extent of the interstate network, identify additional suspects, and uncover the financial trail behind the examination scam.
Investigators have previously stated that Gupta is suspected of links to multiple examination paper leak cases across different states, making his arrest a significant development in efforts to dismantle organized exam fraud networks. Authorities are expected to seek his custody for detailed questioning as the investigation continues.
