New Delhi: Two MLAs and four other people were injured after a car allegedly lost control, crossed a road divider and crashed into an SUV near the PWD office in central Delhi’s ITO area.
The accident took place at around 9:30 pm on Sunday near the old Police Headquarters on Vikas Marg, according to police reports. All six people involved in the crash sustained minor injuries and were taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition.
Swift Crosses Divider and Hits Innova
Police said a Swift car travelling from Laxmi Nagar towards ITO hit the road divider, crossed over to the opposite side and collided with an Innova SUV coming from the other direction.
The impact caused significant damage to the vehicles and prompted an immediate emergency response at the busy intersection. Police are investigating the circumstances that led the car to lose control and breach the divider.
Two MLAs Among Those Injured
Among those injured were Kirari MLA Anil Jha and Karnataka MLA Abhay Patil, who were travelling in the Innova at the time of the accident.
The Swift was reportedly being driven by 32-year-old Ashutosh Pandey, who was accompanied by his wife and two minor children. The driver and his family members were also injured in the collision.
All Victims Reported Stable
Officials said all six people suffered minor injuries and received medical treatment at LNJP Hospital. Their condition was reported to be stable.
The accident occurred at one of central Delhi’s busy traffic corridors, highlighting the dangers of high-speed or loss-of-control incidents on congested urban roads.
Police Investigation Underway
Delhi Police are examining the sequence of events that caused the Swift to hit the divider and enter the opposite carriageway before colliding with the Innova. Further details about the exact cause of the crash are expected as the investigation progresses.
