Mumbai: The Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) has clarified that all rehabilitation and infrastructure-related activities in the Ganesh Nagar–Meghwadi area are being carried out in accordance with established legal procedures, government approvals, and applicable rehabilitation policies. The clarification comes amid concerns and speculation regarding ongoing redevelopment work in the locality.
Project officials stated that the redevelopment initiative aims to provide eligible residents with modern housing, improved civic infrastructure, and a better quality of life while ensuring that the rights of affected families are protected throughout the process.
According to the DRP, every stage of the rehabilitation process—including surveys, eligibility verification, planning, and allotment—is being conducted transparently and in compliance with the regulations laid down by the Government of Maharashtra and relevant authorities. Officials emphasized that no action is undertaken without following due process and obtaining the necessary statutory approvals.
The project also highlighted that infrastructure works currently underway are intended to facilitate the long-term redevelopment of the area. These include improvements to roads, drainage systems, water supply, sanitation, and other essential public utilities that are expected to benefit both existing residents and future occupants.
Authorities reiterated that stakeholder engagement remains a key component of the redevelopment process. Residents are encouraged to participate in consultations, seek clarification from project officials, and rely on verified information rather than unverified claims circulating on social media or other platforms.
The Dharavi Redevelopment Project noted that rehabilitation efforts are focused on ensuring minimal disruption while enabling eligible residents to transition into safer, legally compliant, and well-planned residential developments. Officials added that compensation, rehabilitation benefits, and resettlement measures will continue to follow the applicable government norms.
As one of India’s largest urban renewal initiatives, the Dharavi Redevelopment Project seeks to transform the densely populated locality into a modern urban township featuring quality housing, improved infrastructure, public amenities, commercial opportunities, and sustainable development while preserving the interests of eligible residents.
Project authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining transparency, adhering to legal procedures, and keeping residents informed as redevelopment progresses in Ganesh Nagar–Meghwadi and other parts of Dharavi.
