Baghdad: The United States military said American and Saudi forces carried out coordinated strikes on multiple sites in Iraq allegedly used by Iran-backed militias, marking a significant escalation in efforts to counter armed groups operating in the region.
According to the US military, the targeted locations were being used to store weapons, coordinate attacks, and support operations against coalition forces. Officials said the strikes were intended to degrade the operational capabilities of the militias while minimizing civilian casualties.
The operation comes amid heightened tensions across the Middle East, where Iran-aligned armed groups have intensified attacks on US and allied interests. US officials described the strikes as a defensive measure aimed at protecting coalition personnel and maintaining regional stability.
