INDIA Bloc’s ‘Chalo Dilli’ March Today: 10,000 Personnel Deployed, Traffic Curbs Likely

New Delhi is witnessing heightened security on Sunday, November 1, as the Opposition INDIA bloc stages its ‘Chalo Dilli, Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ march against alleged irregularities in electoral rolls. Nearly 10,000 police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed across central Delhi to manage crowds, maintain law and order and prevent possible disruptions.

The march, led by senior Opposition leaders, will begin near the Minto Road-Connaught Place junction at noon and conclude at Ramlila Maidan, where the INDIA bloc is holding a major public rally.

The demonstration aims to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Opposition has accused the Election Commission of failing to ensure transparency in the electoral process, allegations that have been disputed by the BJP.

10,000 Security Personnel Deployed Across Delhi

Delhi Police have made extensive security arrangements ahead of the large gathering. Around 3,000 Delhi Police personnel and 7,000 paramilitary personnel are expected to be deployed along the march route and around Ramlila Maidan.

Another 10 companies of security personnel have reportedly been kept on standby to handle any emergency situation.

The arrangements include:

  • Multi-layered barricading at roads leading to Ramlila Maidan.
  • Deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), CRPF and Rapid Action Force personnel.
  • Around 250 CCTV cameras for monitoring crowd movement.
  • Drone surveillance and body-worn cameras.
  • Dedicated security zones supervised by senior police officers.
  • Emergency evacuation arrangements for senior political leaders.

Police are also coordinating with rally organisers to ensure crowd management and maintain public safety.

‘Chalo Dilli’ March: Route And Timings

The INDIA bloc’s march is scheduled to begin at noon from the Minto Road-Connaught Place junction.

The procession will proceed through central Delhi before reaching Ramlila Maidan.

Key details include:

  • Date: November 1, 2026
  • March start: 12 noon
  • Starting point: Minto Road-Connaught Place junction
  • Destination: Ramlila Maidan
  • Rally timing: 10 AM to 5 PM

The police have made special arrangements around the route to prevent congestion and manage the movement of participants.

Traffic Restrictions: Roads Likely To Be Affected

Commuters travelling through central Delhi should expect traffic congestion, diversions and delays during the march and rally.

Several important roads and junctions may experience restrictions, including:

  • Minto Road
  • Jawaharlal Nehru Marg
  • Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg
  • Chaman Lal Marg
  • Aruna Asaf Ali Road
  • Barakhamba Road
  • Daryaganj and surrounding areas
  • Connaught Place and nearby junctions

Traffic regulation and diversions are expected between 10 AM and 5 PM, depending on crowd movement and security requirements.

Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses may also operate on diverted routes. Emergency access will be maintained for ambulances travelling to nearby hospitals, including LNJP Hospital and GB Pant Hospital.

Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee And Other Leaders Expected

Several prominent Opposition leaders are expected to participate in the demonstration.

The list includes Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee, Hemant Soren, Revanth Reddy, Tejashwi Yadav and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.

The rally is being projected by the INDIA bloc as a campaign for electoral transparency and accountability.

Rahul Gandhi has also appealed to students, farmers, workers, traders and citizens to join the march.

Why Is The INDIA Bloc Protesting?

The central issue behind the demonstration is the Opposition’s criticism of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

INDIA bloc leaders have alleged that the voter-list revision process has resulted in irregularities, including the deletion of large numbers of voter names.

The Opposition has also questioned the functioning of the Election Commission and demanded accountability from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

On Saturday, Opposition leaders held a symbolic public impeachment programme against the CEC and adopted a resolution listing their allegations.

The BJP, however, has rejected the Opposition’s campaign and criticised the decision to organise a street protest instead of raising the issues through parliamentary discussions.

BJP Organises Separate March In West Delhi

The INDIA bloc’s demonstration is taking place alongside a separate BJP march in West Delhi.

The BJP’s programme focuses on remembering the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The party has criticised the timing of the Opposition’s rally, which coincides with the anniversary of the violence.

The two political programmes have prompted additional security and traffic-management arrangements in different parts of the capital.

Traders Fear Business Losses Ahead Of Diwali

The large gathering has also raised concerns among traders operating in central Delhi.

November 1 is the last Sunday before Diwali, an important shopping period for local businesses. Traders fear that road closures, traffic diversions and security restrictions could discourage customers from visiting commercial areas.

Business representatives have expressed concerns about the impact of political demonstrations on festive-season sales, while acknowledging the importance of the democratic right to protest.

Commuters Advised To Use Delhi Metro

With significant traffic restrictions expected, commuters have been advised to plan their journeys and avoid unnecessary travel through the affected areas.

The Delhi Metro is likely to be a more convenient option for people travelling through central Delhi during the demonstration.

Residents should also follow official Delhi Traffic Police advisories for the latest information about road closures, diversions and public transport changes.

The ‘Chalo Dilli’ march is expected to be a major political demonstration, with security arrangements, public movement and the impact on Delhi’s commercial areas remaining key concerns throughout the day.
