A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men who posed as policemen at Astha Kunj Park near Delhi’s Kalkaji Mandir on Monday evening, September 21, 2026, according to Delhi Police. One of the accused has since been arrested after an exchange of fire with police, while efforts are underway to locate the other two.
What happened?
According to the police complaint, the teenager visited Kalkaji Mandir with a 17-year-old male friend at around 7 pm. After visiting the temple, they went to Astha Kunj Park at approximately 7:30 pm.
Police said three men, believed to be around 25–30 years old, approached the teenagers and allegedly claimed to be policemen. They reportedly separated the girl from her friend and took her towards a secluded part of the park.
One of the accused, identified by police as Asif, allegedly threatened the girl with a firearm and a knife. Police said all three men then allegedly sexually assaulted her before threatening the girl and her friend.
Police received PCR call at 8:45 pm
A PCR call concerning the alleged assault was received at around 8:45 pm. A team from Amar Colony police station reached Astha Kunj Park, where the girl was found with her friend.
The teenager was taken for a medical examination at AIIMS, while crime and forensic teams examined the location and collected evidence.
An FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
One accused arrested after police encounter
During the investigation, police teams traced Asif to the DM Office Road area of Amar Colony.
According to police, when officers attempted to intercept him, he allegedly fired three rounds at them. One bullet reportedly struck the bulletproof jacket of Head Constable Rajesh. Police returned fire, and Asif sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg. He was subsequently taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment.
The other two accused remain unaccounted for, according to the latest reports.
CCTV footage being examined
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from Astha Kunj Park and surrounding areas to establish the sequence of events and identify the remaining suspects. Police are also collecting statements from people who may have been present in or around the park.
