New Delhi: Union Minister for Food Processing Industries and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan has received a death threat through an unsigned communication sent by post, according to his office. The letter reportedly warned that he would be “killed shortly by hardcore terrorists.”
The threat has prompted Paswan’s office to approach the Union Home Ministry, seeking an urgent investigation into the origin and authenticity of the communication and a review of his existing security arrangements.
What Did The Threat Letter Say?
According to a communication sent by Paswan’s Additional Private Secretary to the Union Home Secretary, an unsigned letter containing two mobile phone numbers was received at the ministry on Tuesday.
After the communication was opened, officials found what was described as a direct threat to the Union minister’s life.
The threatening portion reportedly stated: “You will be killed shortly by hardcore terrorists.”
The minister’s office described the direct nature of the threat and the reference to “hardcore terrorists” as a matter of serious concern.
Home Ministry Asked To Investigate
Paswan’s office has requested the Union Home Ministry to investigate the origin, authenticity and circumstances surrounding the threatening communication.
The original communication was also enclosed with the letter sent to the authorities for examination. His office has requested that the matter be treated with urgency.
The office has also sought a review of the minister’s security arrangements and their possible augmentation in view of the reported threat and his scheduled public engagements.
Chirag Paswan Already Has Z-Category Security
The development is particularly significant because Paswan already has Z-category security cover provided by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
According to reports, the threat has also been brought to the attention of the Union Home Ministry, CRPF and Bihar government.
Authorities are expected to assess whether the communication represents a credible threat and whether additional security measures are required.

The latest incident has therefore renewed concerns about the security of the Union minister, particularly during public appearances and political engagements.
