A fresh case of alleged harassment involving a teenage girl has emerged from Samastipur, Bihar, just days after the widely reported Jamui incident involving two minors. A video purportedly showing the incident surfaced on social media, prompting police action and arrests.
What Happened in Samastipur?
According to police and media reports, the incident took place near the Jagat Singh Bandh/embankment area in Jagatsinghpur village, under the Karpuri Gram police station area.
The girl was reportedly with a male companion when a group of men approached them. Video footage circulating online appears to show several men surrounding the pair and physically harassing the girl while she tried to get away. Reports also describe abusive and indecent remarks being made during the confrontation.
Police have cautioned against circulating footage that could identify a minor victim.
Four Arrested
Samastipur Police said the video was technically verified after coming to their attention through social-media monitoring. An FIR was registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), POCSO Act and Information Technology Act.
Police said four suspects have been arrested, while the investigation continues to establish the full circumstances and identify anyone else involved.
Incident Comes Days After Jamui Case
The Samastipur case has drawn attention because it follows the September 19 Jamui incident, in which a Class 10 girl and her male friend were allegedly stopped and assaulted/harassed by a group of men. That case also resulted in arrests and a police investigation under provisions including the POCSO Act.
The back-to-back cases have also triggered political criticism over law and order in Bihar. Such political claims are contested and should be distinguished from the underlying police investigations.
