Pune: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Amit Thackeray visited the famous Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganapati Temple in Pune on Sunday during the ongoing Ganeshotsav celebrations and offered prayers.
Amit Thackeray visited several Ganesh mandals in Pune and spoke about the importance of celebrating the festival with traditional music. He also said he preferred traditional instruments such as dhol and tasha over DJs during the celebrations.
During his visit to Dagdusheth Ganapati, Amit Thackeray was asked what he had prayed for. His response had a clear political connection: he said he prayed that “Raj Saheb should be made the Chief Minister of the state.”
The remark referred to his father and MNS chief Raj Thackeray, and comes amid continuing political activity in Maharashtra ahead of future electoral contests.
The Dagdusheth Ganapati temple is one of Pune’s most prominent Ganesh temples and attracts large numbers of devotees during Ganeshotsav. The temple’s official schedule lists Ganesh Utsav 2026 from September 14, with Anant Chaturdashi falling on September 25.
Amit Thackeray’s statement was a personal expression of what he said he prayed for; it does not itself indicate any change in Maharashtra’s current political officeholders or establish a future government formation.
