Bengaluru: The Karnataka bandh had a limited impact on normal life in Bengaluru, with major public transport services continuing to operate and commuters largely able to move around the city.
Unlike bandh calls that have previously brought large parts of Bengaluru to a standstill, city buses, metro services and cabs continued to ply, allowing office-goers, students and other residents to travel with relatively few disruptions.
BMTC Buses Continue to Operate
Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus services remained operational during the bandh. Buses continued to serve major routes across the city, helping commuters reach workplaces, educational institutions and other destinations.
Although some areas may have experienced localized disruptions because of demonstrations or traffic restrictions, there was no widespread suspension of bus services.
Namma Metro Services Run Normally
Namma Metro services also continued to operate, providing commuters with an alternative to road transport.
The continued operation of the metro was particularly important for passengers travelling across busy parts of Bengaluru, where road conditions could potentially be affected by protests or gatherings.
Cabs and Auto-Rickshaws Available
Cab services also continued to operate across Bengaluru. App-based taxi services remained available for passengers, while auto-rickshaws were also seen operating in several parts of the city.
The availability of multiple transport options helped prevent the kind of widespread mobility problems often associated with citywide bandh calls.
Limited Disruption to Daily Life
Shops, businesses and other establishments largely continued their activities, although the level of participation in the bandh varied between neighbourhoods.
Some areas witnessed protests, gatherings or temporary traffic restrictions, but these did not result in a citywide shutdown. Police deployment and traffic management measures were also put in place in sensitive locations to maintain public order.
Commuters Keep a Watch on Developments
Despite transport services running normally, commuters were advised to remain alert and check local traffic updates before travelling, particularly if their routes passed through areas where demonstrations were taking place.
The overall situation suggested that the bandh had a relatively limited effect on Bengaluru’s daily routine, with buses, metro trains and cabs continuing to provide essential connectivity across the city.
