Jakarta: At least five people have died, while 41 others remain missing, after a passenger ferry caught fire off the coast of Madura Island in Indonesia. The incident occurred on Monday as the vessel was carrying dozens of passengers and crew across the busy shipping route between East Java and Madura, prompting a massive search and rescue operation.
Ferry Engulfed in Flames Mid-Voyage
According to Indonesian authorities, the ferry suddenly burst into flames while sailing near Madura Island. Thick black smoke quickly spread across the vessel, forcing passengers to jump into the sea to escape the blaze.
