Residents across several parts of Chennai will experience a scheduled power shutdown on Tuesday, July 28, as the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation (TNPDCL) carries out routine maintenance work on the electricity network. Power supply is expected to remain suspended from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM and will be restored earlier if maintenance is completed ahead of schedule.
Major areas affected include:
- IT Corridor: MCN Nagar, Foundry Road, SBI Colony, 200 Feet Radial Road, OMR, IIT Colony, Rajiv Nagar, Ramappa Nagar, VGP Santhi Nagar and nearby localities.
- Ramapuram: Manapakkam, Krishna Nagar, Periyar Salai, Indra Nagar, M.G.R. Nagar, Lakshmi Nagar, TVS Emerald, Casagrand Woodside and surrounding areas.
- Medavakkam: Patel Company Salai, CBI Colony, BHEL Nagar, Sivagami Nagar, Velachery Main Road, Ranganathapuram and nearby locations.
- Valasaravakkam: Virugambakkam and Alwarthirunagar.
- Nolambur: VGN Nagar Phases I–IV, Raja Garden, Kambar Salai, Bharathi Salai, MGR University area, Sri Ram Nagar, Sakthi Nagar and adjoining localities.
- Adambakkam: Nilamangai Nagar, Kesari Nagar, Shanthi Nagar, Surendar Nagar and Bharat Nagar.
- Tambaram: Sembakkam, Ranga Colony, SB Colony, Nethaji Street, RB Avenue, Maruthi Nagar and nearby areas.
Residents are advised to:
- Charge mobile phones, laptops and power banks in advance.
- Store sufficient drinking water if electric pumps are used.
- Plan work requiring electricity outside the outage window.
- Keep backup lighting ready in case restoration is delayed.
The shutdown is part of planned preventive maintenance aimed at improving the reliability and safety of the city’s power distribution network. According to officials, electricity supply is expected to resume before 2:00 PM, subject to the completion of maintenance work.
