Kolkata: The Congress leadership has intensified its focus on strengthening the party’s grassroots network in West Bengal as preparations gather pace for the upcoming by-elections and civic body polls. Senior party leaders recently held an extensive review meeting to assess organisational readiness, electoral strategies, and booth-level mobilisation across key districts.

The meeting brought together state office-bearers, district presidents, frontal organisation representatives, and election coordinators to evaluate the party’s current position and identify areas requiring immediate attention. Discussions centred on expanding the party’s presence at the grassroots level, improving coordination among local units, and increasing outreach to voters.

Focus on Booth-Level Strengthening

Party leaders emphasised the importance of reinforcing booth committees, appointing dedicated polling agents, and ensuring effective communication between district and state leadership. The organisational review also highlighted the need to recruit new members, energise youth and women’s wings, and engage more actively with local communities.

Congress leaders stressed that a strong booth-level structure would be crucial in ensuring better electoral performance, especially in constituencies where the party aims to regain lost ground.

Candidate Selection and Local Issues

The leadership also discussed the process of identifying suitable candidates for the upcoming elections. Preference is expected to be given to candidates with strong local connections, clean public images, and active involvement in community issues.

Key public concerns such as unemployment, rising prices, infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and civic amenities are expected to feature prominently in the party’s campaign. Leaders encouraged district units to prepare issue-based campaigns tailored to local voter concerns.

Strengthening Alliances and Coordination

Another major focus of the review was coordination with like-minded political parties wherever necessary. While no formal electoral arrangements were announced, party leaders indicated that discussions on cooperation would continue depending on constituency-specific political circumstances.

The leadership also reviewed digital outreach efforts and social media engagement, recognising the growing importance of online campaigning alongside traditional door-to-door voter contact.

Preparing for an Intensive Campaign

Congress plans to launch a series of public meetings, padayatras, membership drives, and community outreach programmes in the coming weeks. Senior national and state leaders are expected to campaign extensively across the state to energise party workers and connect with voters.

Training sessions for booth-level workers and election volunteers are also expected to be organised to ensure efficient poll management and voter assistance on election day.

Looking Ahead

The upcoming by-elections and civic polls are viewed as an important opportunity for the Congress to strengthen its political presence in West Bengal. Party leaders believe that sustained grassroots engagement, organisational discipline, and a focused campaign on local issues will be key factors in improving electoral performance.

As election preparations continue, the Congress aims to project itself as a responsive alternative by increasing public outreach and reinforcing its organisational structure across the state.
