New Delhi, June 29: Speculation over a major reshuffle of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Union Cabinet has intensified ahead of the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, with political circles abuzz over possible new inductions, portfolio changes, and ministers who could be moved to organisational roles within the BJP. While there has been no official confirmation from the Prime Minister’s Office or the BJP, several developments over the past week have fuelled expectations of an imminent revamp.

The anticipated reshuffle is expected to coincide with the announcement of the BJP’s new national team. Party sources suggest that the leadership is looking to strike a balance between governance, regional representation, caste equations, and preparations for key Assembly elections scheduled later this year. Younger leaders are also likely to be given greater responsibilities in both the government and the party organisation.

Who Could Enter the Cabinet?

According to multiple reports, the BJP may induct several fresh faces while also accommodating leaders from NDA allies to strengthen the coalition government.

Among the names doing the rounds are leaders from Maharashtra, including Shrikant Shinde, Praful Patel, Sunil Tatkare, and Sanjay Mandlik, although no official decision has been announced. Reports also indicate that additional representation may be given to NDA allies such as the JD(U), TDP, and NCP.

Ministers Who May Face Portfolio Changes

Several senior ministers are reportedly under review as part of the reshuffle exercise.

Media reports have speculated about changes in key ministries, with some suggesting that the Finance, Education, and other major portfolios could witness new appointments. Former RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has been mentioned in speculative reports regarding a possible government role, though there has been no official confirmation. Similarly, reports have suggested that some incumbent ministers may be shifted to organisational responsibilities within the BJP instead of remaining in the Cabinet.

Why the Reshuffle Now?

Political observers believe the exercise is aimed at improving governance, rewarding organisational performance, and strengthening the NDA ahead of crucial state elections. The BJP is also expected to focus on increasing representation from politically significant states and communities while giving opportunities to younger leaders.

Another factor adding to the speculation was the recent resignation of Minister of State George Kurian, along with Prime Minister Modi’s meeting with President Droupadi Murmu last week—developments widely seen as possible precursors to Cabinet changes.

Official Announcement Awaited

Despite widespread speculation, neither the Prime Minister’s Office nor the BJP has officially announced any Cabinet reshuffle. The final composition of the Council of Ministers, if any changes are made, is expected to become clear before the Monsoon Session of Parliament begins.

Until an official notification is issued, all names being discussed remain speculative and should be treated as political buzz rather than confirmed appointments.
