Bihar Teacher Recruitment Protest Grows, Students Seek Action Over Exam Irregularities

Patna: Protests by teacher recruitment aspirants intensified in Bihar on Tuesday, August 18, as students stepped up their demands for transparency in recruitment examinations and the immediate release of the notification for the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4).

A group of students began an indefinite hunger strike at the Gardnibagh protest site in Patna, alleging that repeated delays and irregularities in the recruitment process have left thousands of teaching aspirants uncertain about their future.

Students Demand TRE-4 Notification

One of the main demands of the protesting candidates is the release of the TRE-4 notification. Students say the Education Minister had earlier indicated that the notification would be issued in July, but the deadline passed without the recruitment announcement.

The delay has increased frustration among aspirants who have spent months preparing for government teaching examinations. Protesters are also demanding clarity on pending recruitment examinations and greater transparency in the examination system.

Concerns Over Exam Irregularities

The agitation comes amid wider concerns over alleged paper leaks and irregularities in competitive examinations in Bihar.

Opposition leaders have also raised the issue, accusing the state government of failing to maintain confidence in the examination system. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has announced a march to Raj Bhavan on August 19, citing concerns over recurring paper leaks, student grievances and the broader state of Bihar’s examination system.

The allegations have added political pressure on the Bihar government, with students seeking concrete measures to prevent malpractice and ensure that recruitment examinations are conducted fairly.

NEET Investigation Adds to Concerns

Separately, Bihar’s Economic Offences Unit recently arrested two final-year MBBS students in connection with an alleged “solver” racket linked to the NEET-UG and re-NEET UG examinations. Investigators alleged that the accused appeared on behalf of other candidates and were involved in examination-related fraud, including alleged biometric manipulation.

Although the NEET investigation is separate from the teacher recruitment agitation, the case has contributed to broader public concerns about the integrity of competitive examinations in the state.

Government Faces Pressure

The growing protests put pressure on the Bihar administration to address the concerns of teacher aspirants and provide a clear recruitment calendar.

For candidates, the issue goes beyond a delayed notification. Many have invested significant time and money in preparation and are seeking certainty about vacancies, examination dates and the recruitment process.

The protesters are now demanding prompt government intervention, transparent examinations and accountability for any proven irregularities.

With the agitation intensifying and political parties taking up the issue, the coming days could be crucial for determining whether the government announces concrete measures to address the students’ demands.
