Kuwaiti Ambassador to India Mishal Mustafa Al-Shamali has reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between Kuwait and India, highlighting the deep historical, cultural and people-to-people ties between the two countries as India celebrates its 80th Independence Day.
Speaking during an Independence Day celebration at the Presidential Palace in New Delhi on Saturday, Ambassador Al-Shamali extended his warm congratulations and best wishes to the leadership and people of India. He praised India’s journey since independence and highlighted the country’s progress, prosperity and pluralistic character.
Deep Historical Links Between India and Kuwait
Al-Shamali emphasised that relations between Kuwait and India are rooted in centuries of interaction, particularly through trade, cultural exchanges and people-to-people contacts.
These connections existed well before the two countries established formal diplomatic relations in the early 1960s. Over the decades, the relationship has expanded across political, economic, commercial and investment sectors.
The ambassador said the bilateral relationship continues to follow a positive trajectory, driven by mutual interests and cooperation between the two friendly nations.
Indian Community a Key Link
The Kuwaiti envoy also praised the Indian community living in Kuwait, describing it as an important bridge between the two countries.
Millions of Indians have longstanding connections with the Gulf region, and the Indian community has played an important role in Kuwait’s social and economic development. The community has also contributed to strengthening cultural understanding and closer ties between the people of Kuwait and India.
Growing Economic and Strategic Cooperation

Al-Shamali has previously spoken about his commitment to strengthening political, social and economic relations between Kuwait and India. After taking charge as Kuwait’s ambassador to India in 2024, he said he would work to consolidate the longstanding relationship and expand cooperation in areas beneficial to both countries.
The relationship has also gained importance within the broader India-Gulf partnership, with discussions increasingly covering investment, energy security, technology and strategic cooperation.
