Yuvraj Singh sparkles with the ball and bat on his comeback

Chennai: He came, he saw, he bowled and he caught. In the end, it was his bat that did the talking and it screamed that Yuvraj Singh is back to being his best. Although India lost the match against New Zealand by a run, the cricketer emerged as a clear winner.

Making his comeback after battling past cancer, New Zealand could not prove to be much of an adversary for Yuvraj. He came in to bowl after India opted to field. His first went for four and though his second was more expensive with a caught and bowled chance going down, the fans remained vocal in their support.

Just like in Visakhapatnam, where the fans were present in large number in what was supposed to be an emotional welcome for their hero who has survived rare germ-cell cancer, it wasn’t any different here with fans carrying giant posters and placards wishing luck for the talented cricketer.

Wearing his favourite No 12 jersey, Yuvraj was stationed at square leg position but wasn’t really active as he did not have to field any of the balls during the first Powerplay.

However a huge roar went up as the giant screen showed ‘Welcome Back Yuvi’ with their hero slowly trudging towards his four-step bowling mark.

It was the same when Suresh Raina fell. Yuvraj came to the middle and whacked a massive 90m six. Although dropped by Brendon McCullum on 9, Yuvraj added another huge six to his innings of 34 off 26 before falling to James Franklin.

If this match was a sign of things to come, expect Yuvraj to shine much brighter during the World T20 tournament scheduled to begin from next week.
