Dwayne Johnson will be bringing Hobbs back for Fast & Furious 8 – and he’s teased a spin-off film too…

Dwayne Johnson is back in cinemas for his second film of the summer next week, as he headlines incoming disaster movie San Andreas. It’s going to have to go some, of course, to top the numbers of his first, given that Fast & Furious 7 is on the verge of crossing a staggering $1.5bn at the global box office. And it was thus a surprise to pretty much noone when Universal swiftly confirmed Fast & Furious 8.

Johnson has been asked about the new sequel while on the promotional trail for San Andreas. And he’s the first to confirm that he’s definitely on board. “Of course, it can’t go on without Hobbs”, he said when quizzed about his involvement.

He went further too. When asked about a possible spin-off for his character, he admitted it’s a possibility. “We all are interested in it. I just had a big conversation with the studio. So we’ll see”, he said.

“I still think for me personally we’ve created a little bit of space for him in 7 and the gauge is set for what the audience will want. That’s my take on it, you know, but a lot of other people have to have input”.

Fast & Furious 8 is scheduled for release on April 14th 2017. As for a Hobbs spin-off? Watch this space, by the sounds of it…
