After collision with speeding BMW, this car blew up

New Delhi: It is a story all too familiar. Another speeding BMW has claimed yet another life in the National Capital Region. A 39-year-old man was killed on Monday, when a BMW which was allegedly being driven by an MBBS student, rammed into his Maruti Eco van, head-on.

The incident took place at Tilak Marg in New Delhi around 1:20 am. The victim, Mohammad Rafiq, a resident of Fazalpur village was returning home.

The BMW was being driven by Ayush Arora, an MBBS student who is doing an internship with the Maulana Azad Medical College. He was on way back from a get together along with two other friends.

The impact of the head-on collision was such that Rafiq fell out of the car through the windshield. His van caught fire, and was completely charred.

Rafiq was taken to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash hospital where he was declared brought dead. A post-mortem will be performed this morning at 10.

Ayush was arrested from the spot, but also immediately given bail. He has been booked under Sections 279 and 304 A of the Indian Penal Code for rash driving and causing death by negligence.

Police said he was not under the influence of alcohol when the incident took place.

The BMW is registered in the name of a doctor at Gangaram hospital.
